Scientific theory in music education research

Course description

The aim of the course is to provide a broad knowledge of the theories that are relevant to Music Education as a scientific research discipline. The course addresses theories, with a focus on the different dimensions and levels within the knowledge field, such as the individual, the group, the institution and society. The course also aims to provide an insight into how theories in Music Education are used within current research in Music Education. A further aim of the course is to develope an independent and critical approach to the theories that are relevant to the research field of Music Education. 

The course will be given September 2, 2021 - January 13, 2022.

Target group

The course is mandatory for doctoral students accepted to the doctoral education in the subject music education at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. 

Requirements and Selection

Entry requirements

In order to qualify for admission to the course, applicants must have been admitted to doctoral (third-cycle) education.

Selection

Doctoral students at the faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, University of Gothenburg, and doctoral students at Malmö Academy of Music, Lunds University, have priority. 

Educational partnership

The course is organized in collaboration with Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University.
