Course description
The course aims to present major debates and themes in contemporary social anthropological theory. Focus is upon concepts, research questions and results. The course highlights contemporary analytical and theoretical perspectives in social anthropology and discusses how these problematize key issues in the discipline. The course also aims to discuss how analytical innovation is connected to earlier theoretical developments in the discipline and to assess how this innovation relates to broader changes in society.
Target group
The course is mandatory for PhD students in Social anthropology at SGS. The course is also open for PhD students in Social Anthropology at other universities in Sweden and in the Nordic countries.

General entrance requirements for studies in the third cycle.
Selection
The course has a limited number of participants, who are selected according to the following priorities:
1. PhD students in Social Anthropology at School of Global studies, University of Gothenburg
2. PhD students in Social Anthropology at other Nordic universities
Other information
The course runs on full time over five weeks and will be given on campus or in a hybrid format, depending on the needs of the students. The language of instruction is English.
