Course description

Economic evaluation is increasingly used to help in the allocation of scarce health resources. Application areas of health economic evaluations include everything from establishing the cost-effectiveness of new pharmaceuticals to e.g. estimating the cost-effectiveness of health policies regulating hazardous particles. This course covers the most common health economic evaluation methods with a focus on cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis.

After completion of this course the student should be able to understand how to conduct a health economic evaluation of a health intervention.

Requirements and Selection

Entry requirements

Admitted to postgraduate education.

The course is an elective course within the third cycle at Sahlgrenska Academy.

Selection

Selection is performed according to the following:

  1. PhD students at Sahlgrenska Academy,
  2. PhD students enrolled at another university within a formal collaborative agreement on doctoral education with Sahlgrenska Academy,
  3. PhD students enrolled at another faculty at the University of Gothenburg or another university in Sweden,
  4. PhD students enrolled at a university outside Sweden.

Lectures will be recorded, and students are expected to watch/listen to these before on-site/campus sessions. The campus sessions will focus on data analysis (practical implementation) and seminar discussions.
